Online Tech Opens New Michigan Data Center

Online Tech has recently announced the opening of a new data center in Ann Arbor, Michigan. The 20,000 square foot facility with 10,000 feet of raised floor will be open starting this October for clients. The new Michigan Data Center is located in Avis Farms, minutes away from Online Tech's other Ann Arbor Data Center.

Online Tech acquired the data center to continue to support its colocation, managed dedicated server and cloud computing hosting business, which is growing over 30% annually. The Tier 3 data center has a fully redundant power and network infrastructure to support mission critical applications.

"We have taken a long-term view toward the data center market and see this as an ideal time to bring additional capacity online,” said Brian Brizard, CFO of Online Tech. “With our first Ann Arbor data center filling up quickly, we want to make sure we have the capacity to meet our future growth plans. This new facility gives us enough headroom to continue our expansion plans.”

How a Small Incident Turns into a Major Disaster

Last month, we had Steven Gold of SJG Consultants participate in a webinar discussing how a small incident can turn into a natural disaster.

In this webinar, he discussed a disaster that arose from a fire at a data center he once worked at back in 1999, the steps that he took to get back online, the next few months forward and the damage that it caused, and some tips on how to prevent something like this from negatively impacting your company.

Key things that he presented in the webinar were:

• Make sure to have not only specialists, but generalists on your Ops team.
• Make sure that everyone in your company knows your Disaster Recovery plan. Practice. Practice. Practice.
• When dealing with a Disaster Recovery situation, Hope is not a Strategy.
• Stick to the plan you have in place. Don't Panic.
