Online Tech Acquires New Data Center in Avis Park
(Ann Arbor, MI- September 17, 2007) Online Technologies Corporation (OTC) of Ann Arbor, Michigan, announced today that it has acquired a new data center in Michigan. The 10,500 square foot data center, named OTC-Avis was previously used by Thomson/Medstat and is located in Avis Farms, a prestigious high tech park south of Ann Arbor.
Avis will have fiber connections to OTC’s other data centers allowing it to uniquely provide highly scalable high-availability and disaster recovery solutions. The result is the ability to knit together geographically dispersed data center infrastructures into one “virtual data center.”
Avis will house OTC’s growing co-location and managed service product lines sold to medium sized businesses in the Great Lakes. Customers generally use OTC services for high availability for Internet applications and disaster recovery for IT infrastructure. OTC-Avis is scheduled to open in the fourth quarter of 2007 when it will be available for colocation services and to house OTC’s corporate headquarters. OTC will retain the data center and offices at City Center.
“We take a long term view so it’s time to buy capacity. The current economic environment provides us the opportunity for significant cost advantages that can last a decade” said Bob Palmerton, Chief Financial Officer.
With this acquisition, OTC has grown from one 800 square foot data center in 2003 to four data centers with a combined total of 53,900 square feet. In addition, OTC has leased from a third party capacity at two data centers in Southfield for companies requiring service closer to the Detroit area.
