Juliana Kenny: Hi, this is Juliana Kenny at ITEXPO West 2011 in Austin, Texas. I'm joined by Mike Klein of Online Tech. Thanks for joining us today.
Mike Klein: Thank you. It's good to be here.
Juliana: So I understand you're conducting a panel discussion soon?
Mike: Yes, I'm going to be presenting on cloud computing and what it means to managed service providers at MSPWorld.
Juliana: Awesome. So what are some of the main elements of your discussion?
Mike: First, we are going to be talking about the spectrum of cloud computing. There are a lot of different solutions in the marketplace from private clouds to public clouds and a lot of places in-between. Then, we will discuss some of the trends going on in the marketplace.
Juliana: So what are some of the most important trends?
Mike: Well, I think that there are 3 key areas currently that we see a lot of people focusing on right now.
- The whole area of putting Mission-Critical Applications into High Availability Cloud Computing.
- The whole trend of IT disaster recovery. How Disaster Recovery really changes in the Cloud Computing world
- Regulatory Compliance, whether that would mean HIPAA or PCI and how you support that in the cloud as well.
Juliana: As an observer in the industry, what sort of changes have you seen over the old concerns of the cloud vs. new concerns of the cloud?
Mike: That's a really good question. Two years ago, even last year for that matter, security was a major concern and I think that the bigger the enterprise or the bigger the company, the more concerns they have about security and a lot of them tend to look toward private clouds because its a secure solution. However, I think there's been more and more of a comfort factor as we are getting more regulatory compliance in managed clouds and shared clouds environments involving HIPAA, PCI, and SOX. With these solutions going into place, people have been more comfortable with cloud-based solutions.
Juliana: Does that complicate the matter when more people are feeling comfortable about deploying cloud-based solutions?
Mike: Not Necessarily. What it does is that it actually makes it a lot simpler from my perspective because when you're a cloud provider like Online Tech, what we get is one standard solution that we can apply across a number of clients. So a year ago, when people were wanting managed dedicated servers in which every installation was unique to the client. When they move into the cloud, they get the same installation that is already been audited and assured that they are meeting regulatory requirements.
Juliana: Great! Thank you so much for joining me and good luck in your session.
Mike: Thank you very much for having me.
