Online Tech Helps Wish-a-Mile Rider Exceed Donation Goal

Kurt Schaldenbrand Bikes 300 Miles to Raise Money for Make-a-Wish Foundation of Michigan

Ann Arbor, Michigan – August 5, 2010 – Kurt Schaldenbrand, a professional software developer, brings joy to children with life-threatening medical conditions by trekking 300 miles through Michigan on his bike. This year he had the support of the staff and executive leadership of managed data center operator Online Tech.

The Wish-a-Mile (WAM) 300 bicycle tour is an annual three-day, 300 mile bicycle ride from Traverse City to Chelsea, Michigan to raise funds and awareness for the Make-a-Wish Foundation of Michigan. Now in its 23rd year, the event is the single largest fundraising event for the foundation and raised enough money to fulfill 250 Michigan children’s wishes last year.

“I have participated in the event for the last three years and each time it has been an incredibly rewarding experience for me personally. It is a great cause and having met and become friends with some of the parents of the ‘Wish Children,’ I can see it truly has made an important difference in their difficult lives,” says Kurt Schaldenbrand.

Along with making the 300 mile trek every year, Kurt tries to increase his donation goal with each event as well. This year he was able to exceed his goal by 25% with the help of Online Tech’s employees and company support. The managed data center provider, who has hired Kurt to work on their customer portal, was responsible for over 20% of his donation goal this year, with over 50% of their employees donating to the cause. Online Tech as a company offered to match the donations of their employees, pushing Kurt’s total donations over his goal.

“I am very thankful that Online Tech supported me in my ride this year. It is good to know that not only are my fellow co-workers very generous people but the company was willing to chip in for a good cause as well,” says Kurt.

“We’re a goal driven company and believe in giving back. Helping Kurt meet this goal fits our culture perfectly. I’m really proud of the entire team,” added Yan Ness, CEO of Online Tech.

This year the Wish-A-Mile 300 Bicycle Tour along with the inaugural WAM 50, a one-day ride, will raise more than $1.5 million for the foundation. To learn more about the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Michigan and the WAM bicycle tour, visit their website at www.wishmich.org.
