Mobile computing systems are among the solutions being deployed by a large percentage of medical professionals, a recent CompTIA study found.
A growing number of doctors, nurses and other medical professionals are using tablets and smartphones to operate more efficiently in the workplace, according to the news source. While laptops and traditional desktop PCs are still considered the standard, mobile device popularity is climbing quickly.
The survey found approximately 25 percent of respondents are currently using tablets, while another 21 percent of healthcare providers told CompTIA they plan to begin using tablets within the next 12 months.
The mobile wave is strong in the healthcare industry, with approximately two-thirds of respondents identifying mobile device deployment as a mid- or high-level priority for the next year, the survey found.
The widespread adoption of mobile devices could come as part of the healthcare industry's increased efforts to improve communication with patients and other consumers. A recent PwC Health Research Institute study found the industry will embrace more social media for communication with consumers during the next year.
