A recent fire at the New York Stock Exchange data center in Mawhah, New Jersey, emphasizes the importance of disaster recovery, as the highly trained staff and specialized systems at the facility helped prevent the incident from creating major problems, Data Center Knowledge reported.
According to an NYSE release, the facility's robust prevention and response programs limited the fire to a single cabinet.
"On Sunday, there was an isolated electrical fire that was quickly extinguished within a single computer cabinet at our Mahwah data center," the statement said.
An on-site staff trained to respond to disasters and get systems running again quickly restored the servers that were put out of action because of the fire.
Most businesses do not have access to such robust systems to fend off a fire and get servers running again. To resolve this issue, organizations can turn to a colocation provider to meet their disaster recovery and IT outsourcing needs.
