According to a recent 451 Group study, the managed hosting industry has matured substantially in recent years, creating a sophisticated market capable of offering more robust services.
The study explained that most IT innovations go through a cycle in which they establish themselves in the market, and then are specialized through more advanced and specific services. This process is happening now in the managed hosting sector, where vendors are unveiling solutions capable of meeting more precise needs, such as high availability.
Cloud hosting is a major part of this maturation. The technology was initially a separate branch of the managed hosting market, but has been refined and grown into a more prominent role. As a result, the industry will soon be at a point where there will no longer be a distinction between cloud and managed hosting services.
Regardless of how the hosting plan is set up, availability is key. A recent VeriSign study found online retailers using hosting services often experience greater availability than those depending on internal systems.
