Hot Sites, Warm Sites and Cold Sites

Online Technologies Corporation has its data centers on a private network that enable hot site, warm site or cold site disaster recovery at price points suitable for small and medium sized businesses.

  • Alternate Sites
    • Using additional servers, storage, replication technology and private dedicated circuits between your facility and our data center we can fashion a whole array of failover solutions

    • Declining hardware, storage and telecommunications costs make high-end disaster recovery an option even for small companies

    • OTC can use its multiple data centers to offer co-location customers hot-site failover

    • OTC uses a “DR quadrant” with level of severity on the Y axis and time to recovery on the X axis. Where on that quadrant do you want to be?

  • Hot-Site
    • Redundant equipment in OTC’s data center with high speed (fiber) telecommunications to replicate the data in near real-time

    • High speed (e.g. optical) circuits between your production facility and one of OTC’s DR facilities allows for near real-time replication of data and program

    • During an outage, traffic to the production system is automatically routed to the hot-site for continued operation

    • Allows for extremely rapid failover from very severe scenarios

  • Warm-Site
    • Place equipment in OTC’s data center that is similar to your production equipment.

    • Connect them with high speed telecommunications to replicate the data in batch (for example, nightly)

    • During an outage, servers at DR site are started and loaded with the lastest dataset. Traffic is routed to the DR site.

    • Removes rebuilding server and restoring data from the “critical path” of returning to operation

  • Cold-Site
    • Spare servers, storage and backup data are on hand but not kept running.

    • Restoration begins by powering up servers, updating software and restoring data from backup

    • Removes “waiting for hardware” from the critical path. During an emergency it can be very difficult to get hardware

  • What's right for you?
    • How much down time can you afford? A Hot Site can provide almost 100% up time in even the most extreme disasters.

    • What is your budget? Hot sites are exponentially more expensive than warm sites or cold sites.
