Technology Century: Online Tech’s Westland Data Center Opens

The 34,500-square-foot stand-alone data center, a former Sprint-Nextel building, will include a total of 18,000 square feet of 24-inch raised floor space, which will be opened in three phases.

The carrier-neutral data center has two physically separate entry points for fiber optic cable, and will offer fiber connectivity from eight different telecommunications providers. Speeds of up to 10 gigabits per second will be available to customers on demand.

The load capacity of the building will be 1.2 megawatts. There are three 500,000-watt generators installed with 2,000-gallon fuel tanks and flywheels to handle the few seconds between grid outage and generator power.

The data center also recently was successfully independently audited for HIPAA, PCI, SOX and Safe Harbor compliance to ensure full scale data center security.
